Dental Hygiene Eastbourne

How our dental hygienists can help protect your teeth and gums.

Healthy gums are the foundation of a healthy mouth. At The Dental Barn, we welcome patients looking for dental hygiene near Eastbourne to our peaceful practice near Hailsham. Regular hygiene appointments help remove plaque, tartar and staining that daily brushing cannot always reach. Our hygienists can also identify signs of gum disease, support concerns such as bleeding gums or persistent bad breath, and provide practical advice to improve your home-care routine.

By preventing problems and managing them early, we can help you maintain fresher breath, healthier gums and stronger teeth for longer.

Can I see the Hygienist without seeing the Dentist?

Yes. Since 2013, dental hygienists have been permitted to see patients through Direct Access, so you do not need to visit a dentist first. If your hygienist notices anything that requires diagnosis or dental treatment, they will recommend arranging an appointment with a dentist.

What is Airflow?

Airflow uses a controlled spray of warm water, air and fine powder to gently remove plaque, biofilm and surface staining caused by food, drinks and smoking. It can clean around the gumline, between teeth and in other areas that are difficult to reach with conventional polishing.

The treatment is particularly useful for maintaining dental implants because it can clean around implant surfaces gently and effectively. Regular professional maintenance helps protect the gums and supporting tissues surrounding your implants.

Airflow can also be used to remove certain surface stains from dentures, helping them look cleaner and feel fresher as part of an ongoing dental hygiene routine.

Maintenance with Airflow
£73.50

A regular maintenance appointment designed to remove tartar, plaque and surface staining. Airflow is used to clean difficult-to-reach areas gently, while a gum health assessment allows us to monitor for any changes. Your hygienist will also provide straightforward advice on brushing and cleaning between your teeth. Depending on your gum health, appointments may be recommended every three, four or six months.

New patient first Hygiene visit £105

Your first visit combines a detailed gum health assessment with professional hygiene treatment. We will explain our findings clearly and show you how to brush and clean between your teeth more effectively. Airflow is used to remove plaque and biofilm, giving you a cleaner starting point for improving your oral health. If there are heavier deposits or signs of gum disease, a further appointment may be recommended.

Advanced Maintenance with Airflow £140

A longer appointment for patients with more advanced or complex gum conditions. This includes thorough cleaning and Airflow treatment to disrupt plaque and biofilm around the teeth, gumline and suitable periodontal pockets. These appointments support the ongoing management of gum disease and are usually recommended every two or three months, depending on your individual needs.
